5 Teas For Flatulence

5 teas for flatulence

The formation of intestinal gases is a normal physiological phenomenon. The gases consist mainly of nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and methane. A small amount of sulfur gas is also common; they are the cause of the typical smell of flatulence (as they leave the gut).

In some people with intestinal problems (such as irritable bowel syndrome), intestinal gases can cause even severe symptoms and abdominal pain.

Why is gas formed?

Foods high in fiber, carbohydrates, cellulose, proteins, and fats, as well as carbonated beverages, can cause gas to build up in the stomach and intestines. The gases can be the result of bacteria fermenting in the gut. Gaseous carbohydrates include fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols.

The gases resulting from the fermentation of carbohydrates pass through the intestine and eventually escape as air.
